Youth Environmental Scientists Institute
Working with the youth in our community
About
The plight of youth living in Southern California urban centers is now legendary. One doesn’t have to look very far to find evidence of hopelessness and despair, soaring drop-out rates, high youth unemployment, ever increasing crime, and uncaring attitudes of acceptance. There is a widening opportunity gap and even the best and brightest students are finding it difficult to achieve success in school and their career.
The Youth Environmental Scientists (YES) Institute program was developed for, among other reasons, to help the youths of our greater community successfully realize their educational and career aspirations in the areas of the environmental science. YES achieves this vision through the volunteer efforts of its own employees, associates and employees of affiliate organizations, and concerned clients that want to participate in YES programming. The YES mission is fulfilled through the implementation of nine core goals related to:
- Urban Forestry
- Air Quality
- Water Resources
- Vector Control
- Disease Control
- Housing and Homelessness
- Abatement of Slum and Blight
- Waste Resources
- Coastal Resources
